Yellow fever vaccination is not required.
Hepatitis A is generally transmitted through contaminated food and water, or through close physical contact with an infected person, while Hepatitis B is transmitted through exposure to infected body fluids and blood.
Infection typically occurs through contact with the saliva of an infected animal, usually by bites, scratches or licks near open wounds or membranes (mouth, nose, eyes). The most common vectors are dogs and bats, but cases of infection in other domestic animals have also been reported.
Caused by toxins released by the bacterium Clostridium tetani, the risk of contracting tetanus is endemic throughout the country.
Bacterial in origin, typhoid fever is transmitted through contaminated food and drink, especially in regions where sanitation conditions are poor.
Malaria, transmitted by mosquito bites, is widespread throughout the country. As a vaccine is not yet available, you are advised to take both behavioural, and following medical consultation, pharmacological preventive measures.
Diseases such as Chikungunya, Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever, Rift Valley Fever are found in West Asia. Transmitted by insect bites and with no vaccine, it is important to implement careful, preventive behavioural measures.
The following vaccinations are strongly recommended as these diseases can be contracted anywhere in the world. Experts advise that you protect yourself and other travellers by making sure you are up-to-date with all of the recommended vaccinations. This will allow you to travel safely, while minimising the risk of exposure to infection.
A Middle Eastern state, it borders Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Israel to the south and Lebanon to the west. It is lapped by the Mediterranean Sea to the west.
The territory can be divided into three main areas. The coastal region includes a narrow plain facing the Mediterranean and the northern extension of the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountain ranges, furrowed by the Jordan Valley. The southern region is occupied by the Arabian Plateau, hemmed in by mountains (including the country's highest peak, Mount Hermon at 2814 metres) and predominantly arid, except for a limited section between Gebel Druso and the Antiliban. The north-eastern section is occupied by the lowlands making up the western end of Mesopotamia, between the Tigris, which touches the border with Turkey and Iraq, and the Euphrates, which runs through the heart of the region. Except for areas adjacent to rivers and their tributaries, the region is completely desert.
The climate is Mediterranean, with relatively mild winters hot summers (temperatures can exceed 40°C), dry inland, while humidity is higher along the coast. Rainfall is generally low however.
