It is administered intramuscularly.

The vaccination schedule includes 3 doses (at least 1 month apart) for children aged between 2 and 5 months, or 2 doses separated by at least 2 months until age 10. There is a booster after the cycle is completed: between 12 and 15 months of age (with an interval of at least 6 months) for children vaccinated between 2 and 5 months; in the second year of life (at least 2 months apart) if vaccinated between 6 and 11 months; with an interval between 12 and 23 months for children vaccinated between 12 and 23 months of age.

The most frequently reported adverse reactions are pain, redness and induration at the injection site, malaise, fever, headache, irritability and gastrointestinal symptoms. Vaccine administration must be postponed in individuals with acute febrile infections.

Contraindications to the meningococcal vaccine are severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) after administration of a previous dose or to a vaccine component.

A careful risk-benefit assessment by a medical specialist is necessary when considering the vaccination of pregnant or breastfeeding women.
